My name is Paul Kirk-Lauritsen I live in Noosa Queensland and handcraft hollow timber surfboards from exotic plantation and certified timbers such as Balsa, Huon Pine, Western Red Cedar and Australian Red Cedar.
Most of the boards I make are based on older 60’s templates such as the Kevin Platt shaped Hayden replica circa 1965 which is my most popular board, it is the board I surf myself.
Every stage of each board I make is carried out by me including a mirror finish glass job. I create my own templates by hand (no CNC machining) all ribs and centre spar are hand made using a band saw and hand plane.
Each board I make is unique by using different stringer and nose and tail block configurations. All boards are custom made and usually take approximately 6 to 8 weeks from start to finish.
The cost of each board is based on $225 per foot which includes a 12” fin box, if you would like a glassed in timber fin an extra $300 would be charged.
As an example a 9’6” board with a fin box would be $2160 with a glassed in fin the price would be $2460.
These costs are based on the majority of the board being Balsa or Western Red Cedar, if the majority of the board is Australian Red Cedar or Huon Pine the price per foot would be negotiated as these timbers are becoming rare.
